Kit Digital and AI: what your company can claim, by size

The Kit Digital AI categories are for mid-sized companies; SMEs have the classic catalogue. What each company can claim and how to prepare in Barcelona.

Spain’s Kit Digital programme already covers artificial intelligence, but not in the way it is usually told. It is worth putting things in order, because the fine print decides what each company can claim.

Where AI sits in Kit Digital

The AI categories entered the catalogue with Order TDF/435/2024 (May 2024): customer management with associated AI, Business Intelligence and analytics with associated AI and process management with associated AI. Order TDF/39/2026 (January 2026) adds no categories: it guarantees that unused budget is reinvested in new calls under the programme.

The first thing to know: the three AI categories are only available to mid-sized companies of 50 to 249 employees (segments IV and V). Amounts range from 8,000 to 24,000 euros depending on category and size: 16,000-19,000 € for process management with AI, 18,000-24,000 € for customer management with AI and 8,000-9,000 € for BI and analytics with AI. All of them include parameterisation hours and 20 hours of AI training for the team.

What a small SME can claim

SMEs and micro-businesses under 50 employees have the classic catalogue: website (2,000 €), process management (up to 6,000 €), customer management (up to 4,000 €), BI and analytics (up to 4,000 €), e-invoicing, cybersecurity and others. The voucher reaches 3,000 euros for freelancers and micro-businesses and 12,000 euros for companies of 10 to 49 employees.

That does not mean being left out of AI: within categories such as process management or customer management, solutions can be delivered that include intelligent automation, assistants that answer from the company’s own documents or augmented analytics, provided the solution meets the minimum requirements of its category.

You cannot apply yet

The application calls have been closed since 31 October 2025 and red.es has not published an opening date. The 2026 order mandates reinvesting leftover funds into the programme itself, so new calls are reasonable to expect, but today there is no deadline or confirmed amount.

The moment to get ready

A closed call is not a reason to sit and wait, but to prepare the claim properly: run a diagnosis of which processes would truly benefit, define the concrete use cases and choose a provider that knows how to run local AI, not just resell subscriptions.

The AI Act already sets the path. Article 4, on AI literacy and oversight, has been in force since February 2025. The transparency obligations of Article 50 apply from 2 August 2026. AI running locally — on your own server or in the Barcelona lab of a provider — simplifies compliance: data never leaves the office and control over the system is direct.

When red.es opens the window, the SMEs that did their homework will claim better and choose better. Those that arrive at the last minute will end up buying whatever the catalogue puts in front of them.

At file.cat we help companies in Barcelona and Catalonia take that first step: a free assessment to decide which AI makes sense for your company and how to finance it.
